General guidelines

Choose a topic that you wish to develop into a written
discussion of current systematic research your discussion is
designed to present a topic to an informed but non-expert
audience. It should provide sufficient background
information to allow your readers to comprehend the topic
and place it in context within this course.

Obtain references that allow you to develop your report
on the topic chosen use these references to both lead you to
other papers on your topic and to allow you to provide a
general outline of differing views or opinions about your
topic

Create a general outline of your paper (I will review it if
you provide me with it)

Develop a detailed outline that forms the template for your
final report
-
Complete a rough draft of your report and convince someone
to read it over to assist you with editing the rough draft
into final form.
Grade

This paper counts as
20% of the final class grade

Content/effective communication

Grammatical
and Spelling accuracy

Accurate and
relevant references cited

Correct final
format requirements (see below)

Attendance
and participation in Peer Review session

Late papers will
lose 10 points each day (except Sundays) at 5pm beyond the
due date
Parameters
Final report format

The final paper
should follow the format for a current systematics journal.
One example would
be Systematic Biology.
Use the
instructions to authors in formatting your manuscripts.

In order to
receive full credit for your report it must be delivered in
both hard copy and on disk (label the diskette with
operating system and your name).
You should save
the file in both word processor of your choice and as a
simple text file using the "Save As" option of your
software.
